22 de Mayo Día Internacional de la Diversidad Biológica

El Día Internacional de la Diversidad Biológica se celebra todos los años el 22 de Mayo

Entre la amplia gama de organismos vivos que constituyen la biodiversidad se encuentra el ser humano que se relaciona de muy diferentes formas con las demás especies y ecosistemas, de hecho su vida depende profundamente de ellos. Sin embargo, a partir de que adoptó prácticas inadecuadas con la idea de “desarrollo”, la biodiversidad se ha visto seriamente afectada, pues no sólo están desapareciendo especies valiosas sino también ecosistemas enteros. Se estima que se extinguen cada día entre 50 y 300 especies. Es verdad que la extinción de especies forma parte del curso natural de la Tierra. Sin embargo, durante los últimos cien años el hombre ha acelerado el ritmo de extinción al menos 100 veces respecto al ritmo natural.

Es fundamental tomar conciencia sobre la permanente interacción que tenemos los humanos con la naturaleza en donde se desarrollan nuestras actividades y lograr así que las soluciones planteadas, para resolver los problemas ambientales, tengan validez, sean viables y sostenibles en el tiempo.

 
Con el objetivo de aumentar la comprensión y la conciencia sobre las cuestiones relativas a la diversidad biológica, entre todos realizaron el siguiente resúmen sobre el tema elegido para este año.

A bit of poetry

You are great writers!

Last week, we had beautiful presentations. You showed that if groups work well, you can have extremely nice final products! And that is what happened when you created the poems about disabled people. You showed that you can work together without having arguments and, last but not least, you managed to show disabled people feelings in the eyes of a society which finds it hard to accept differences.

All the school knew about your productions. And we all felt so happy for you! I hope we can go on working like this!

In class, we played a fun competition . We divided in two teams and we asked and answered these questions about general information on World Cups!!! We learnt a great deal!!!


When was the first football World Cup held? Was it 1920, 1930 or 1940?

 The first World Cup was held in 1930.


Where was the first World Cup held?
Was it Brazil, Uruguay or Germany? The first World Cup was held in Uruguay in Latin America. Hosts Uruguay beat neighbours Argentina in the final. Uruguay declared 31 July a national holiday to commemorate the win.



Which country has won the World Cup the most times?

Is it Italy, Brazil or Germany?


Brazil has won the World Cup five times. Italy has won four times and West Germany three times. No countries from Africa, Central/North America or Asia have ever won. Why do you think this is the case?
Who won the Women’s World Cup in 2011? Was it Brazil, Japan or USA?


Japan won the 2011 Women’s World Cup in Germany. The next Women’s World Cup is in Canada in 2015. The first Women’s World Cup was in 1991 hosted by China, initiated by Dr. João Havelange, FIFA President 1974-1998.
The World Cup qualifying matches started in 2011 and finished in 2013. How many teams entered? Was it 170, 199 or 203?


A total of 203 out of the 208 FIFA member countries entered teams. The highest number of teams to ever enter was 204 in 2010. South Sudan is the newest member of FIFA, but has not taken part in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers as they joined too late. CAFOD works in South Sudan.

The current format involves 32 teams. This year’s World Cup includes teams competing from five nations where CAFOD partners work: Brazil, England, Honduras, Colombia and Nigeria.


What is the estimated cost of hosting the 2014 World Cup?

Is it £8.8 million, £88 million or £8.8 billion?


Hosting the World Cup is costing Brazil around £8.8 billion – the most expensive World Cup in history – and 90 per cent of that money is coming from Brazilian taxpayers. In Brazil, £8 billion would pay for more than two million new homes in a country where one fifth of the population, or 40 million people, are living in poverty. Everyone wants the World Cup in Brazil to be a huge success, but that shouldn’t be at the expense of the poorest and most vulnerable people.
What issues, some relating to the World Cup, caused unrest and criticism in Brazil leading up to the event?

The price of public transport, food and rent is rising very high; little is being done to improve housing, schools and hospitals. At the same time, billions of pounds are being spent on hosting the World Cup. For many people, the World Cup has meant losing their homes. In the favelas of São Paulo, 4,000 families have been evicted so that a new road can be constructed from the airport to the stadium. Another 6,000 are still under threat of eviction. Charla con Argentina Cibersegura

Argentina Cibersegura es una organización sin fines de lucro que trabaja para crear un espacio online seguro, en base a la concientización y educación de las personas que utilizan Internet.

El día miércoles pasado nos visitaron y nos dieron una charla sobre navegación segura por Internet.
Luego de la charla trabajamos en el aula...¿Querés saber qué hicimos?

• Hicimos juntos una rutina de pensamiento que se llama 5 x 2

• Les pedimos a los chicos que pensaran 5 palabras clave que recuerden de la charla .

• Cada uno anotó en un papel esas palabras y las fuimos anotando en el pizarrón cuando, de a uno las fueron diciendo.

• Si alguna de las palabras que tenían en el papel ya fueron dichas, no se volvían a decir. Qué concentarción!!!

• Luego pensaron 5 más...y fueron descartando las que estaban repetidas.

Por último les pedimos que con las palabras que quedaron el pizarrón armaran individualmente dos consejos importantes para dar sobre navegación segura en Internet.

Today we started working on the value of the month in NFS: Diversity. Your ideas were really great and nice. I hope we can all learn to respect differences during these days!
